World Mental Health Day 2025

On 10 October 2025, we joined the world in commemorating World Mental Health Day — a day that reminds us that mental health matters just as much as physical health.

At Mphela and Associates, we believe in creating a workplace where everyone feels supported, heard, and valued. This year, our amazing team members shared their thoughts on what mental health means to them — a reminder that behind every strong professional is a person who deserves care and compassion.

Here’s what our colleagues had to say:

“This day serves as a climacteric reminder to prioritize mental health and that we must work jointly to diminish stigma around mental health discussions and advance a conducive environment where people feel emancipated to share their challenges and seek help.” – Ayanda Mpontshane, Attorney (Groblersdal Branch).

“Today, as we commemorate World Mental Health Day, let’s pause and remember that it’s okay not to be okay. We all face struggles that aren’t always visible, and showing kindness to ourselves and to others can make a real difference. Let’s use this day to check in on a friend, lend a listening ear, and remind one another that no one has to face their battles alone. Together, we can build a world where Mental Health is spoken about with understanding, empathy and hope.” – Kgopotso Rapolai, Filing Clerk (Groblersdal Branch)

“While we raise global awareness of mental health issues. We are reminded that mental health is as important as physical health. This day encourages us to break the stigma surrounding mental illness ,to show support and remind ourselves that we don’t need to struggle alone in this this world of pressure, confusion, and depression. To reassure ourselves and others that taking care of yourself is not selfish and taking a break in not being weak. Remember to be kind to yourself and to others, your mental health matters!” – Masechaba Ditshego, Candidate Attorney (Groblersdal Branch).

“Being mentally healthy is important for our overall well-being, it goes beyond “not being sick’ to include thinking and living well. It’s more about identifying our strength and using them, understanding and effectively managing stress and bouncing back from life challenges. When our mental health is in good shape, not only does it improve our ability to be productive, make thoughtful decisions and finding purpose in our work, it also helps us to be able to contribute meaningfully to our communities, however, it’s normal for our mental health to change time to time. Life’s up and downs can strain us and in order to maintain balance, we consistently need support, whether from friends, family or professional”. – Errol Mohale Matloga, Candidate Attorney (Pretoria Branch)

“Taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body. It’s okay to rest and to ask for help and it’s okay to cry, to speak about what you are going through. You don’t have to face it alone. Speak to those around you”. – Lenah Lekalakala, Receptionist (Pretoria Branch)
